BERNARD
FIERRO - INSPIRED BY NATURE AND LIFE AROUND HIM |
|
Having relocated from Martha's Vineyard, Ma., Bernard Fierro now makes his home in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains, just north of Mescal. He and his wife Heidi share the LuckyPup Ranch with twenty horses, five dogs, a barn cat and a pot bellied pig. When asked what brought him to the area, Fierro replied," My wife and I were living in Oracle with a small and inadequate space for my wife's horse business, so we went looking for a more appropriate space that would be better for the horses and allow the operation to grow. We were led north on Mescal road where a friend had a ranch set up that was for sale. We bought it and have been happy there with plenty of space for my studio and work and Heidi's horses. During the past sixteen years, Fierro's ranch animals, friends, and the surrounding landscapes have all been his subjects for work completed with watercolors, oil and acrylic. Fierro, now 70, has been using painting to express his view of the world around him since the age of 9. His career began in 1960 upon graduating from the Pennyslvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pa., where he was honored with the Cecelia Beaux Portrait Prize and European traveling scholorships which enabled him to study the Spanish, French and Italian masters. He currently shows his work in Tucson and surrounding areas as well as the East coast. Locally, Fierro's work is on display in A Gallery of Dreams in Saint David.
